Koh Samui

Koh Samui, positioned on the eastern flanks of Southern Thailand, ranks amongst the most scenically beautiful islands in the world. Once pristine and uninhabited, the island has seen much development over the years but, nevertheless, it still manages to retain its magical allure. Its numerous hills are densely covered in tropical trees and coconut plantations whilst the coastline is fringed with glorious beaches. Chaweng is the island’s nerve centre with a host of restaurants, bars and resorts. Lamai, which adjoins Chaweng to the south, is quickly following in its tracks. More sedate options have sprung up over the last decade, notably in and around Bo Phut and Maenam, both facing north to neighbouring Koh Phangan. This is yet another beautiful island, full of natural splendour. Once renowned for its ‘full moon parties’ and low-cost accommodations, the island is now home to a small number of prestigious hotels and resorts, although development is carefully controlled.
