Day 1 - Sandakan: Get ready for an adventure-packed holiday when you land in Sandakan. You will be welcomed at the airport by a friendly guide who will transfer you to your hotel. Once you have checked-in, you will have the rest of the day free to spend at your own leisure. Feel free to sleep off any jet lag or venture out and explore the local area.
Day 2 - Sandakan & Abai: Today will be etched in your mind forever as you will come face-to-face with friendly orangutans. This morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to Sepilok’s Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Here you will help feed and observe man’s closest relative - the orangutans. You will adore your time at the centre, which helps rehabilitate animals to become wild in their natural habitat. The facility provides medical care for orphaned and confiscated orangutans as well as other wildlife species including sun bears, gibbons, Sumatran rhinos and elephants.
Next, you will visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, which has managed to improve the living conditions for rescued sun bear inside its enclosed forest. If you can tear your eyes away from these fantastic animals then be sure to pull out a selfie stick and snap a photo. Next, you will head to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, which is located in the centre of Semawang’s mangrove forest. Prepare to be wowed as you get close to Borneo’s indigenous proboscis monkeys in their natural habitat. You will be able to see them play and eat before returning to your hotel. Next, you will be transferred to a jetty in Sandakan for an hour-long boat cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary where you will take your lunch at Abai Jungle Restaurant. This wonderful journey starts from the waters of Sulu Sea off Sandakan Town through a magnificent scenery of mangrove forest. Once you arrive, you will check in and relax at the Lodge. Feel free to go on the Lodge’s nature boardwalk. But be sure to bring along your binoculars as you might have the chance to spot orangutans, silver leaf monkeys, and birds. Later in the afternoon, you'll go on a cruise to search for wildlife until the sun sets while enjoying a cup of coffee. Then by night fall, you will continue the night cruise and see fireflies. Finally, you will return to the Lodge for dinner. After your feast, you will venture out once again to experience what the jungle is like at night. Keep your eyes peeled as you are bound to spot birds, snakes, insects and other wildlife with the nature guide.
Day 3 – Abai to Sukau: Wake up to the bird tweeting in the trees, before you enjoy a delicious breakfast. Today, you will experience an early morning river trip to Pitas Lake, where you will be able to observe more wildlife. After a briefing about the area’s tree planting project, you will stop for lunch, before enjoying a cruise upriver to Sukau village in search of primates, especially wild orangutans, birds, pygmy elephants and other wildlife. Be sure to have your camera ready so you can snap photos of these amazing animals. Once you arrive in Sukau, you will check in at the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. You will have time to freshen up in the late afternoon, and take another river cruise to the Menanggul River, which is a small tributary of the Kinabatangan. After such an exciting day, you will return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 – Sukau, Sandakan & Kuala Lumpur: Start the day with a delicious breakfast, before you are transferred by boat back to Sandakan. Here you will enjoy another chance for wildlife sightings during the 2-hour journey, with a short break in Abai. Once you arrive at Sandakan jetty, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Kuala Lumpur. Once your plane lands in Kuala Lumpur airport, you will be met by your driver who will take you to your hotel.
Day 5 - Kuala Lumpur: Today you will start the day with a delicious breakfast, before you are driven through the Perdana Botanical Garden, which was formerly known as Taman Tasik Perdana or Lake Gardens. Here you can admire 800 species of orchids, mahogany trees that are more than 300 years old, and countless hibiscus blooms. Next, you will also stop at the National Mosque and Independence Square. From there, you will take a short walk to Central Market, passing the convergence of the Gombak and Klang river – at Masjid
Jamek, one of the first buildings to be erected in Kuala Lumpur. Next, you will stroll through Chinatown, board the bus and proceed to Kampung Baru. This is a typical Malay area where most houses are still built in the traditional Malay architecture. Your journey will continue toward KLCC, where you can take photos of the world’s tallest twin towers. After such a busy day, you will return to your hotel, where you can relax as you wish.
Day 6 - Kuala Lumpur & Langkawi: Start the day with a delicious breakfast at your hotel, where you will have the morning free until your departure transfer to Kuala
Lumpur airport for your onward flight to Langkawi Island. Upon arrival at Langkawi Airport, you will be welcomed by your driver who will transfer you to your resort. Feel your shoulders drop and your worries vanish as soon as you enter this tropical paradise. The hotel boasts it’s own private beach, which is the perfect spot to watch the sunset tonight.
Day 7 to 9 - Langkawi: You will have the next few days free to spend as you wish. If you want to unwind, then you can head to the nearby beach, and soak up the sunshine or experience a host of exhilarating water sports on offer. To truly unwind, make your way to the hotel’s spa and treat yourself to a relaxing massage. Whatever you do, it is bound to be amazing.
Day 10 – Departure: Relish in the final breakfast of your holiday, as you reflect on the wonderful adventures you have encountered. Later, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
