Holidays don’t get more picturesque than Costa Rica. Here you can make a splash among waterfalls and misty crater lakes or sunbathe in jungle-fringed deserted beaches. However, it is not all about topping up your tan – as thrill seekers can also enjoy horseback riding, kayaking and much more in this tropical adventure land.

In fact, when it comes to outdoor adventures, there is plenty to do. Just imagine embarking on a rainforest hike, rushing white-water rapids  or enjoying world-class surfing in Tamagringo, which is known as Costa Rica’s top surf and party destination. There is no shortage of hotels, bars and restaurants – so you are guaranteed a good time.

It’s National Parks are also a must-see as they give visitors a glimpse into life inside the tropical rainforest, while simmering volcanoes offer otherworldly vistas.

If you want to do a bit of wildlife spotting then Costa Rica is the place for you.

Here you can come face to face with keel-billed toucans, scarlet macaws, sloths, white-faced capuchins and even a howler monkey. Keep your eyes peeled and you may even spot blue morpho butterflies fliting amid orchid-festooned trees, or spot colourful tropical fish, sharks, rays, dolphins and whales thriving offshore.

Culture vultures, should head to San José’s historic neighbourhoods such as Barrio Amón, where colonial mansions have been converted into contemporary art galleries, restaurants and boutique hotels. You can also stroll with shoppers at the farmers market, or dance the night away with crowds in Parque La Sabana.
