Bahrain

A trip to Bahrain lets holiday makers enjoy all the trappings of the glitzy Middle East, but without the crowds and commercialism.  You too can be transported from grey UK to sunny Bahrain, in under 7-hours thanks to a direct flight from London Heathrow. As soon as you set off from the plane, you will notice it is less flashy than its neighbours, but it has its own fascinating charm. This wonderful region boasts a stunning landscape, cool culture, stunning skyscrapers, a growing art and foodie scene as well as an avant-garde National Theatre.  If you like to splash your cash, then you will be in for a treat at its super-sized shopping malls. But for an authentic experience, simply head to its Manama Souq, which is in the warren of streets behind Bab Al Bahrain, and put your haggling skills to the test. If you are after history, then Bahrain delivers on that too. Culture vultures will adore exploring the Bahrain Fort, which is known as Qal'at Al Bahrain, and has a UNESCO World Heritage status. Excavations at the landmark have revealed ancient soldier's barracks, horse stables, an ammunition depot, a secret passageway, ceramic utensils and Islamic and Chinese currency coins. From here, you can also walk to the Bahrain Fort Museum, which is surrounded by a picturesque seascape and lush greenery. Inside, the museum’s collection showcases five different historical periods. Petrol head will adore a trip to the country’s own Formula 1 grand prix circuit, which is the only desert Formula 1 track amongst the 21 races worldwide. Situated on the south side of the Bahrain island, this modern first-class facility is completely surrounded by sand to ensure an exceptional setting.
