Agra

couple in front of Agra Taj Mahal

Agra, once the capital of India under the Mughal Empire sits on the banks of the river Yamuna in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, home to a grieving emperor’s romantic tribute The Taj Mahal, its glistening marble domes reflected in the beautifully landscaped pools, the world’s greatest romantic poem to love. Travel just a couple of kilometres northwest to Akbar’s magnificent Fort, then onwards to the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri founded in 1569 one of the best preserved collections of Indian Mughal architecture in India. The fascinating city of Agra forms one corner of the Golden Triangle, filled with remnants of the Mughal Empire and UNESCO listed buildings.
