Chiang Rai is the northernmost province of Thailand. Scenic mountains, river valleys, waterfalls, historic sites and hill tribe villages such as Karen and Lisu, can all be found in Chiang Rai. The province is also dubbed ‘Gateway to the Golden Triangle’ as it borders the three countries of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos and is a good base to make interesting excursions into the latter two.
